Licensed Vocational Nurse

Licensed Certification

This articulated classroom and clinical education program prepares individuals for eligibility to write the licensure examination for vocational nurses. The vocational nurse performs routine nursing procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse of physician. These procedures include observation, reporting and the environmental and physical management of patients. This program has been approved by the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas. Application for accreditation of the vocational nursing program by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission is in progress.

LVN graduates are eligible to write the licensing examination for vocational nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon completing the Nursing AAS, graduates are eligible to write the licensing examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). Students are eligible to apply for graduation with a certification in Fundamentals of Vocational Nursing and apply for certification as a nursing assistant through the Texas Nurse Aide Registry following successful completion of first semester RNSG or VNSG courses.
