Office Systems Technologist The Associate of Applied Science degree in Professional Office Computer Technology prepares students to become word procession/computer operators, desktop specialists, secretaries and administrative assistants. During their first year of study, students acquire a broad range of general office and computer skills. In their second year, students further develop their communication skills and enhance their knowledge of software applications, business practices and technology in the business environment. Articulation credit is available from most area independent school districts. This program offers two certificates within the degree plan: Office Assistant and Software Applications Specialist. POFT 2301, Document Formatting and Skillbuilding, serves as the capstone experience for the 21-hour certificate. The capstone experience course for the 36-hour certificate is POFT 1309, Administrative Office Procedures I. ITSC 2321, Integrated Software Applications II, serves as the capstone experience for the two-year program. Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Certification courses will prepare you to take a test that could qualify you as either a core or expert user. To be certified, an exam must be taken from a third-party testing company called an Authorization Certification Testing Center. Refer to course description for specific MOUS Certification information. The program offers a Tech-Prep Enhanced Skills Certificate designed for those students who have met college-level prerequisites or who have completed this two-year associate degree. |
