SPECTRUM ANNOUNCES $50,000 TO PROJECT ARRIBA IN EL PASO THROUGH SPECTRUM COMMUNITY CENTER ASSIST
October 4, 2023

El Paso, Texas – October 4, 2023 – Spectrum today announced Project ARRIBA has received $50,000 through Spectrum Community Center Assist (SCCA), the company’s $30 million philanthropic initiative to revitalize local community centers and invest in job training programs in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods where Spectrum operates.

Spectrum will kick-off the partnership on Saturday, October 7 at Project ARRIBA located at 1155 Westmoreland Dr. #235, El Paso, TX, where Spectrum employees and community volunteers will provide physical improvements to the facility and will assist with a resource fair open to the community from 12 P.M. – 3 P.M.

“The long-term partnership we are creating with Project ARRIBA will make a real difference in the lives of local residents by giving them the skills, tools and updated facilities they need to improve their economic situation,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact for Charter Communications, which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity services. “Already thousands of people around the country have participated in SCCA in the neighborhoods we serve, and we look forward to working with Project ARRIBA to provide essential job training in a safe and revitalized space.”

Project ARRIBA will receive $50,000 to be used to provide educational assistance and job skills training to economically disadvantaged individuals in El Paso, including their job training program connecting individuals in search of higher education, training providers and local employers seeking a skilled workforce. The nonprofit uses intensive care management and support services to increase academic retention and graduation rates for at-risk students.

Spectrum also will donate new laptops and dedicate a new “Spectrum Training and Technology Center” at Project ARRIBA to support the organization’s programs. Additionally, because broadband is a critical component of a community center’s infrastructure, Spectrum will provide Project ARRIBA its advanced 1 gigabit-per-second internet service, for the life of the program.

“Spectrum’s financial contribution will help us provide the resources vulnerable adults need to mitigate socioeconomic barriers to a higher education that leads to self-sufficiency,” said Roman Ortiz, President & CEO of Project ARRIBA. “Project ARRIBA’s innovation and intensity lies in its dynamic case management approach and wrap-around support services or need based aid to mitigate barriers for students, promoting job training success and increasing academic retention and graduation rates.”

“We are proud to support this program,” said Oscar Leeser, Mayor of El Paso. “Project ARRIBA is a high-impact workforce and economic development program focused on advanced-skill, high-wage jobs that benefit the city and the citizens of El Paso. By working together, we can fill demand jobs, many in healthcare as nurses, that pay living wages with great career advancement opportunities while meeting local healthcare facility needs.”

Spectrum launched Spectrum Community Center Assist in 2021 and will invest $30 million to benefit 100 community centers and job training programs in underserved areas across the company’s 41-state footprint. At each location, Spectrum invests in the community center’s job training efforts with cash grants and in-kind contributions, improves physical classroom spaces, sponsors rebuilding events with volunteers to repair and enhance the physical buildings, and provides new equipment, including laptops and furniture. “The crucial service that Project ARRIBA offers the people of El Paso is having a positive generational impact on our underrepresented communities,” said Alexsandra Annello, El Paso Mayor Pro Tem. “I know that with the generous support of Spectrum, they will continue to help improve the lives of those who seek to continue their education and uplift their families and community.”
